Talked with Booneville coach Mike Mattox and Baldwyn coach Michael Gray yesterday for a preview on Thursday’s game at Baldwyn.
Booneville has won three straight in the series. Mattox buys in to the saying that teams improve their most from the first week to the second.
“I’m a full believer that’s when you’re going to do your most improving,” Mattox said. “Most of the time you’ve got what you want to put in, in and you really get to concentrate on getting more reps with it.”
Gray saw his team beat Kossuth 22-6 Friday but of those points, there was a safety, a pick-6 and a on-side returned for a touchdown.
“Offensively we’ve got to be able to take advantage of some big play we made on defense and special teams to get more points,” Gray said.
The story is in Thursday’s Daily Journal but here’s a pretty strong compliment from Mattox about the Blue Devils’ rival.
To me, that’s the best Baldwyn team I’ve seen since the (2008) state championship team,” Mattox said.
