Oxford coach Johnny Hill

Oxford beat Shannon 17-0.

“You have to watch the film. You like the fact your defense didn’t let them score. Special teams I thought we did what we needed to do.”

Junior Oxford kicker Cody Mills kicked all four of his kickoffs into the end zone.

“I was pleased with them. Of course, there are some things we’ve got to get better at. It was a good scrimmage. I thought we were in pretty good shape. I saw one or two huffing and puffing when Shannon had that long drive. I thought they played hard and had fun.”

Okolona coach Calvin Aldridge

Center Hill beat Okolona 3-0.

“I thought we played better than I thought we would, really. I thought defensively we played very well. We’ve got a good group of young kids. We play  a lot of young kids, only seven seniors and seven juniors. Our young kids really stepped up and our seniors led too.”

“They didn’t ask to come off the field. For two quarters you go out there and play with these guys and they played in the quarterfinals of 5A and beat teams like West Point … The way we see it though is we lost and we want to go back and work harder next week. They’ve got a good football team, good quarterback, well coached, great receivers too and the backs looked good.”
