I talked with Itawamba 4-star ATH Ashton Shumpert Friday about a lot of things. Despite some reports of his narrowed down college choices, he said he’s still open to everyone and “still looking at everyone.”
I also asked him how he handled the massive attention and what kind of effects that had on his routine.
“When it comes down to practice, I can just focus on trying to get some work in and getting better,” he said. “It’s not that bad of a commotion. I’ve kind of gotten used to it.”
He may have spent the last two seasons at Tupelo but knows well what lies ahead in 4A in the Indians are going to make a run.
Five teams look like they have a legitimate shot at the four playoff spots in 1-4A alone. Last season it was Amory winning it and going all the way to the North finals. Itawamba was the only team to beat the Panthers in division.
“I know a whole lot about it from my freshman year. And in 4A we’ve got some big ones in there,” Shumpert said, “Lafayette, Noxubee, Louisvlle…a lot of good teams.”
